23th July 2010 Fercom Scoops Tender for Budapest Public Transport Company

Motorola’s Hungarian distributor Fercom Ltd was awarded the tender during 2009  to supply 100 GM340 professional analogue mobile radios for the capital city’s tram network. Following the implementation of the new communications system earlier this year, the Budapest public transportation company BKV has seen improved co-ordination between staff, enabling them to offer better customer service and enhancing the safety of personnel and commuters.

BKV serves approximately 1.4 billion passengers on its buses, trams, underground and suburban network and has been a Fercom customer since 1994. The analogue radios which the company had previously been using were no longer supported and they also didn’t comply with new regulations for 25kHz two-way radio systems.

The 6-channel GM340 radios were chosen due to their reliable performance in a high voltage environment as well as their selective calling feature which supports individual and group calls. The radios are being used for communications between the main dispatch centre and the city’s buses, trams, metro and cog railways.

“We’ve had a lot of experience in providing communications for public transportation organisations, including analogue and digital two-way radio solutions for suburban and underground networks,” noted László Imre, Sales Director at Fercom.

“In addition to ongoing projects with BKV, we have supplied a MOTOTRBO digital radio network for use in the public transportation system in Debrecen, the second largest city in Hungary and we recently completed a project for Budapest Airport, which also involved the deployment of a digital radio solution,” he added.

Fercom attributes its success to the company’s reliable partnerships, skilled personnel and excellent after sales service.
